John as The Tin Man
Graham in 4th grade production
Grandchildren are the crown of the aged, and the glory of children is their fathers.
Some days are special; and some are extra-special! This last weekend we had two of the extra-special variety. This side of heaven, Grandparenthood is one of the greatest of God’s gifts. On Friday evening my 12 year-old grandson John starred as the Tin Man in The Covenant School’s production of The Wizard of Oz. And yesterday, my 10-year old stood before our church and professed his faith in our Lord as the King of his life. And I haven’t been able to get the smile off my face since.
John’s costume was excellent, with silver hair and skin paint. He performed wonderfully as the Tin Man (yes, I know I’m prejudiced; but refer again to the verse quoted from Proverbs). And his joy after the performance made it even more special!
Grandson Graham is a very special young man, much brighter and more worldly aware that I have ever been. His family, his friends and his teachers all recognize his intellect, but they also recognize what a sweet soul he is. I watched him stand before our church and repeat the vows, and I was acutely aware of how serious he was about the words.
Unless Jesus comes soon I won’t be here to witness, but I can’t wait for them both to grow and mature. May each be a proud son of God, and beacon of light for their professions, their churches, and their families.
God is gracious in allowing me to be a part of their special weekend, and in allowing a proud Grandfather to beam at their accomplishments.
What a wonderful weekend!!!💖💖💖
